RAFBH’s Board made the big move, approving up to $5,000 toward static restoration of Ramey’s well-known “Connie.” The motion is contingent on receiving full title, long-term lease or title to permant display area for it and other aircraft, no liens on the bird and donations of $50,000 to restore the legendary bird. One of my favorite memories of Ramey was of running the base asphalt roads late at night, barefoot. Because of Air Force FOD paranoia, very few rock chips were used in base road construction or refurbishing, therefore providing a pure asphalt mat easy on the bare feet. RAFBHA’s Board is meeting to decide whether to endorse the Connie renovation. We’ve established a business plan, complete with steps required to give the project a chance of succeeding.
