An update of Ramey… The government submitted a request to convert Ramey as a Foreign Trading Zone ( FTZ) . If approved, Ramey will be the first airport in Puerto Rico with such designation. The government policy is to develop and position Ramey as a world-class cargo hub in the caribbean.

The power plant was used when the base would need to be self sufficient and not dependent on the local economy. The exhaust stacks were taken down in ’71. If you continue down the street to the left, the base power plant will be the next building. These are some picture that I took at Ramey in 2011. I worked in the 72nd Transportation Squadron Vehicle Maintenance Section from 70-71.

Rik… those fotos were from an adventure that several of us indulged in, jumping the fence and exploring the so-called Tropical Acres housing area, also known as the FHA Housing area. it was in the playground around midnight on 1 Feb 1960 that the Col.Porterfield B-52 crashed here killing him and 6 others. Housing was last in use in early 1980s.
