We had a Saturday walk-in at the Museum. A stateside couple, the Mahony family, were vacationing at the Island.

We can usually tell when someone visiting the Museum had been stationed at Ramey before. They usually have an aura of anticipation as they enter the facilities. Gretchen Mahoney not only had that glow but seemed to have an extra glean in her eye.

As they finished their tour of the Museum we answered some of their questions and had a few of  [read more →]

Vicki Bandy was in 7th grade when her parents were stationed at Ramey AFB.

Vicki contacted the Association, thru our website, to mention she was going to be visiting Ramey. She wanted to visit the Museum and visit her former home.

There was one problem though. Vicki did not remember her home address. As most children her age she just remembers having a lot of fun at Ramey.

Vicki did remember one thing… she walked to school from her house. She also remembered  [read more →]

Here at the Museum we have a pretty big list of subject matter we wish to continue adding to our repository. To that end the Museum staff spends a vast amount of time doing research. It’s what we spend most of our time with.

Last Saturday USAF retired SSgt Jose F. Jimenez Barreto visited the Museum for the first time. After checking out the Museum he felt confident his three simple donations, as he called them, would be safe at our  [read more →]

Saving the C-121 Constellation

C-121 Constellation located in Aguadilla Puerto Rico

After reading Ken Coombs comments on the C-121 in the recent “View”, I could not agree more! I can’t afford a big sum, but I will put up the first $100. My first plane trip was on a Constellation. I heard my parents talk about me and Mom coming home from Ramey on a “Super Connie” since I was knee high. That C-121 truly represents the best times at Ramey for many, many people. Some may say that a better  [read more →]

Lori Mischke forwarded a message from our website. Pat Allen and his wife Ginger were going home to Ramey again.  After a few e-mails it was all set.

Pat and Ginger arrived at the Museum right on schedule. This I’m sure to the fact that Pat was a      B-52 navigator while stationed at Ramey. I was so focused on Pat’s story that I forgot to take pictures of the Allen’s at the Museum. That’s a first for me!!!

Now to the Allen’s  [read more →]

The RAFBHA had committed placing Flagpoles at the Museum facilities. (see “Flagpoles for the Museum” article). I’m delighted to report this project has now been accomplished.

We want to give our thanks, not only to all the RAFBHA Board Members, but to Gerry Giles (Board At Large), Jorge Gonzalez (Museum Associate Director) and a superb WASCO Team. With all these “boots on the ground” there was no doubt the project would end as a “Mission Accomplished”.

Before we continue with our comments  [read more →]

Just received a wonderful message from Community Liaison for RAFBHA, Gerry Giles, “Three flagpoles and two flags now installed this 31 December 2011!!!! Hooray!”

Board members, Gerry Giles and Ricardo Busquets  have worked very hard to make this flagpole project come about.  The Ramey Flag will be raised soon followed by the lighting of the flagpoles. This is just one of the major accomplishments made by RAFBHA this past year.

As an officer for RAFBHA I have truly enjoyed this past year  [read more →]

The RAFBHA received an e-mail from Mr. Pat Donnelly. The message was received thru our website and forwarded to the Museum by our webmaster and RAFBHA Board Secretary Lori Mischke.

Pat wanted to donate his father’s pieces of history to the Museum. Pat’s father, SMSGT Brian J. Donnelly, was stationed at Ramey AFB from 1964 until 1967. Among his many assignments, before being stationed at Ramey, was photographing “Operation Crossroads” at the Bikini Atoll.

SMSGT Donnelly has passed away but his son  [read more →]

A very special visit had been arranged, by no other than Don Agustin Martinez (see “I Was Here In 39” story), to visit the Museum facilities. Dragon Warrior Unit 2011 was landing at the Museum.

Agustin and other parents organized this group to give their children and other kids, from the historic City of San Sebastian, a sense of civic responsibility.

Among their activities are PT drills, field trips and assignments of responsibility. In general they provide the kids with an awareness  [read more →]

Pedro "Pete" Garcia and Angel Galvan, both USAF retirees and Museum volunteers, hold the Museum Colors

During a recent RAFBHA “Skype” Board meeting it was suggested the Museum was missing some flagpoles.

This proposal came from At Large member Fred Mischke to include the Associations “Spirit of Ramey” colors. A motion was presented and was passed unanimously.
